I took these courses too.
The problem

You studied. Then the exam asked it differently.

You can memorize every formula on the review sheet and still freeze when a question is worded in a way you haven't seen. That isn't a work ethic problem. It's what happens when you learn answers without learning the reasoning that produces them.

And in Gen Chem, the gap compounds. Stoichiometry leans on moles, equilibrium leans on stoichiometry, and acids and bases lean on all of it. For pre-health students, the grade on the transcript leans on everything.

Memorized the night before

It felt solid at midnight and was gone by the second page of the exam.

Lost on a reworded question

You knew the formula. You just couldn't tell which one the problem wanted.

Behind before the next unit

Every new chapter assumes the last one made sense. It didn't, and now it's stacking.

The method

Find the Bridge.

We cover the rules, formulas, and numbers in detail. But before we touch a calculator, we zoom out and ask three questions. Once you can answer them, the formula is just the last step.

I

What am I given?

Pull every quantity and condition out of the problem, including the ones hiding in the wording.

II

What am I asked to find?

Name the target and its units before doing any math. Half of all wrong answers start here.

III

What principle connects them?

Reason from first principles to the bridge. That's the step a memorized formula can't do for you.

Worked example

How many grams of water form when 4.0 g of hydrogen gas reacts completely with excess oxygen?

Given4.0 g H2, with O2 in excess (so H2 runs out first)
Findgrams of H2O
BridgeYou can't compare grams of different substances. You can compare moles. The balanced equation, 2H2 + O2 → 2H2O, gives the ratio.
4.0 g H2 × 1 mol H22.016 g H2 = 1.98 mol H2
1.98 mol H2 × 2 mol H2O2 mol H2 = 1.98 mol H2O
1.98 mol H2O × 18.02 g H2O1 mol H2O = 36 g H2O

grams → moles → moles → grams.
Same bridge, every stoichiometry problem.

What we build

Four habits that outlast the final.

Passing the next exam matters. So do organic chemistry, the MCAT, the PCAT, and everything after. These are the habits we work on in every session.

I

Purpose

Start with your why.

Medicine, pharmacy, PA, vet school. When the reason is clear, the hard weeks get easier to show up for, so we keep it in view.

II

Confusion

Push into what's unclear.

Most students steer around the topics that confuse them. We go straight at them, because that's how you get the A.

III

Intuition

Intuition is earned.

The students who "just get it" have usually worked more problems. Deliberate practice builds the instinct for finding the right answer.

IV

Ownership

Own the outcome.

I bring structure, clear explanations, and honest feedback. You bring the dedication. That partnership is what moves a grade.

Results

What the work looks like.

Sometimes the breakthrough is a better way to work a problem. Sometimes it's a better way to run your week. Good tutoring covers both.

40%higher score, test over test

Organic Chemistry · Exam 2

Kendall reached out after a rough first organic chemistry exam. One session, a couple of hours before her second exam, where we worked the material from first principles and her score increased 40% from the first exam.

Kendall said she walked into that exam feeling far more confident.

General Chemistry I

Baylee felt like there was never enough time to study. So before we touched a single problem, we mapped out her week together and found more than 60 hours of free time she could put toward her priorities, with dedicated blocks set aside for Gen Chem.

I've sat in the same lecture halls.

I'm Kole. I earned a B.S. in Chemistry and a B.S. in Biology at ETSU, completed Honors-in-Discipline in Chemistry with a published thesis, and went on to formulate explosives as a Senior Scientist before turning to tutoring. I remember exactly which Gen Chem units sorted people out, and why.

What I enjoy most is the moment a student stops asking "which formula is this?" and starts asking "what is this problem actually telling me?" That shift is what I teach toward, every session.

Questions

Before you book.

Is this just homework help?

We'll work through your actual assignments, but the goal is that you can solve the next problem without me. Every session ends with you doing the work, not watching it.

Will you work from my professor's syllabus?

Yes. Bring your syllabus, lecture slides, problem sets, and old exams. Sessions are built around your course, your pace, and your next exam date.

Do you tutor Organic Chemistry too?

Yes, Organic Chemistry I and II. Kendall's result above came from an Orgo exam. The same approach applies: figure out what the problem gives you, what it wants, and the principle that connects them.

Do you tutor in person or online?

Both. In person anywhere in Johnson City and the surrounding Tri-Cities, or online by video if that fits your schedule better.

What happens in the free intro?

No charge and no obligation. We look at where you are in the course, what's giving you trouble, and when your next exam is, and we start working real problems together. You leave with a plan whether or not you book another session.

My exam is next week. Is it too late?

No. Reach out anyway. A focused session or two before an exam can do a lot, and starting before the following unit does even more.

My parents are paying. Can they talk with you?

Of course. I'm glad to answer their questions by phone ((423) 759-8256) or email (easyawithkole@gmail.com) before you start.
